From July 15 through July 18 of 2024, Animal Lighting Application Specialist Dr. Gabrielle House was able to attend the annual Poultry Science Association meeting in Louisville, Kentucky. This symposium offered attendees exposure to the latest science, research and technology within the poultry science field. With presentations from industry and academia, this conference offered a variety of information and opportunities to all poultry scientists Now, Dr. House is sharing her three key takeaways from the meeting and important trends in the agricultural industry:

Gaining popularity - Poultry LED lighting research continues to gain popularity as dynamic solutions and new technology to assess poultry performance and welfare becomes available.

Housing and lighting conditions - These conditions in poultry houses must be refined to meet the needs of specific strains. Not all poultry species perceive their environment in the same way, and groups are now focused on researching how different strains perceive their surroundings in commercial systems.

More than just lighting - Lighting can be used for more than just ceiling light. Exciting advancements like hyperspectral imaging could be promising tools for taking a more in-depth look at the health and well-being of future commercial flocks. It is already being implemented in processing facilities to measure meat quality!
