From the Field: Inside a New Layer Hen Facility Powered by Dynamic Lighting in France

Last month, Tatiana Guérin Crisostomo, Key Account Manager, traveled in the French countryside to a brand-new layer hen facility that had just opened its doors. This operation is new, but it's already setting a high bar for performance and animal welfare. The farm, operated by Sophie and Sébastien, is equipped with an advanced dynamic lighting system designed to do more than just illuminate, it’s helping hens thrive from day one.

At the heart of the system are Dim-To-Red dome fixtures, which combine carefully tuned white and red light spectrums to support the birds' behavior and biological rhythms.

  • Red light is used to stimulate egg production, helping hens stay productive and on cycle.
  • White light helps prevent off-nest laying by encouraging proper movement and orientation in the barn.

This isn’t just about making things brighter—it’s about making them better. At ONCE, a Signify brand, we believe that light is a powerful management tool that can influence how animals eat, rest, move, and ultimately, perform.

We were honored to work alongside Huttepain Aliments, who supported the project from start to finish. Our installation partners, Tuffigo Rapidex and Technimaine-ADAF, helped bring this vision to life with technical precision and a deep understanding of the farm’s goals.

Sophie and Sébastien’s commitment to doing things right—from the ground up—shows what’s possible when lighting and animal care come together by design. We’re proud to be part of this project and can’t wait to see how their birds grow and perform in this smart, welfare-focused environment.
