Claiming First Place with White LED Lights: Lai Thang’s Success Story at Angela’s Farm

At Angela’s Farm in Seagrove, North Carolina, Lai Thang has been raising broilers for years, always striving to find better ways to support his birds and improve his results. When he decided to swap out his traditional green Edison bulbs for new white LED lights in two of his ten houses, he discovered more than just brighter lighting—he found a competitive edge.

The Problem: Finding the Right Lighting Solution

For a long time, Lai Thang relied on standard green Edison bulbs purchased locally. These bulbs had served their purpose, but he knew there was room for improvement. The question wasn’t if he should change his lighting—it was when.

The Solution: Upgrading to ONCE White LED Lights

In the fall of 2024, Thang decided to test out white LED lights in two of his houses. He installed 100 regular LED lights and between 30 and 50 brood lights, hoping for an upgrade that would make a difference.

The Results: Brighter Houses, Healthier Birds

Thang immediately noticed a transformation. “As soon as I put them in, the first thing I noticed was they were 1,000 times brighter,” he shares. Even after installing fresh green Edison bulbs in other houses for comparison, the ONCE white LEDs outshone them—literally.

Thang’s new lights had an immediate impact. After just one growing cycle, he clinched first place in a local growers’ competition. He believes this success comes from better light control. “You can dim it down as much as you want and have a really good result with it,” he says. “If they’re eating good and moving around when they’re young, it will contribute to them being healthier when they’re older.”

Beyond brightness and performance, Thang values how easy the LED lights are to maintain. Unlike the green Edison bulbs, which required fiddling with wires, the white LEDs simply screw in and out. “It’s a lot easier to work on,” he notes.

Perhaps most importantly, Thang has observed how his birds seem happier and more active in the houses lit with white LED lights. “They just seem more comfortable,” he says. With two flocks already under these new lights, Thang continues to see improvements and plans to expand his LED lighting further.

At Angela’s Farm, Lai Thang’s story proves that sometimes, the simplest changes can yield the most impressive results.
